COMING SOON: The Apocalyse

Don't worry, you don't have to go stocking up your bunker. The Mayans may have been wrong about the end of the world, but filmmakers still seem very much enamored with the idea of the apocalypse. This year, it feels like there will be an unusually high number of apocalyptic films hitting theaters (not even including the post-apocalyptic ones). Here are some of those doomsday films to look forward to:

RAPTURE-PALOOZA (Jun 7)

Director: Paul Middleditch
Starring: Anna Kendrick, Ken Jeong, Rob Corddry
Plot: Two teens battle their way through a religious apocalypse on a mission to defeat the Antichrist.

THIS IS THE END (Jun 12)

Director: Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen
Starring: James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen
Plot: While attending a party at James Franco's house, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel and many other celebrities are faced with the apocalypse.

WORLD WAR Z (Jun 21)

Director: Marc Forster
Starring: Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale
Plot: United Nations employee Gerry Lane traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to destroy humanity itself.

PACIFIC RIM (Jul 12)

Director: Guillermo del Toro
Starring: Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba
Plot: When an alien attack threatens the Earth's existence, giant robots piloted by humans are deployed to fight off the menace.

THE WORLD'S END (Aug 23)

Director: Edgar Wright

Plot: Five friends who reunite in an attempt to top their epic pub crawl from 20 years earlier unwittingly become humankind's only hope for survival.

  1. There are definitely a crazy amount of these films lately. Another one is "It's a Disaster" with David Cross. The only reason I'd see Rapture-Palooza is Anna Kendrick. Is Craig Robinson turning into Bernie Mac? I seriously thought that was him for a second, then I was like, wait, he's dead. The rest I'm definitely up for. I was a little skeptical about World War Z but I finally read some positive buzz recently. Which of these are you most excited for?

    1. I didn't even know about that David Cross one. There are so many! I'm not that interested in Rapture-palooza (the Antichrist concept kinda creeps me out). I'm looking forward to the others though, particularly Pacific Rim and World War Z. This Is The End has been getting great early buzz too, so that also looks very promising.
