OLDIE GOLDIES: Modern Times (1936)

On a previous edition of "Oldie Goldies" I looked at Charlie Chaplin's The Kid. This week I am pleased to highlight another gem from the Chaplin collection - "Modern Times". This film is pure entertainment, delivering endless laughs through audacious visual gags.

Did you know?
The reference to drugs seen in the prison sequence is somewhat daring for the time (since the production code, established in 1930, forbade the depiction of illegal drug use in films); Chaplin had made drug references before in one of his most famous short films Easy Street, released in 1917.

  1. Peel the sticky from the shower head with a cleaning brush, then mix a cup of water and a cup of white vinegar in a plastic bag. Secure the bag around the shower head for about an hour and then turn the shower on hot to get rid of sludge and mineral deposits.
