HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT: Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid

This week on Hit me with your best shot we looked at popular 1969 film "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". If you view this film as a Western, then it's certainly one that distinguishes itself within the genre. It's such a jocular film, without the tension or anxiety that usually accompany a Western. I never truly felt any dread while watching it. In fact, there are some scenes that are so sweet that you'd wonder if you were watching a serious crime drama at all (think "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head"). With that in mind, my favourite shot is a simple one. While the title characters maintain their playfulness throughout, the other main character is almost staid in comparison.

My favourite shot comes around the midway point of the film, with Etta (Katherine Ross) waiting for her two men to come home. I love the feeling this image conveys. The melancholy of it contrasts with the film's general tone and that's why it stood out to me.
