Perhaps the most unpredictable category to predict at the nominations stage is Best Original Song. With no reliable precursors, the nominees are entirely dependent on the mood of the voters. Sometimes they go for popular music (Lose Yourself), other times they lean a bit more obscure (Al otro lado del rio). With that in mind, there are still a few songs that have certainly been given a boost from their Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominations:

"Atlas" by Coldplay - The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

"Happy" by Pharrell Williams - Despicable Me 2

"Let It Go" by Idina Menzel - Frozen

"Ordinary Love" by U2 - Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom

"Sweeter Than Fiction" by Taylor Swift - One Chance

"Young and Beautiful" by Lana Del Rey - The Great Gatsby

Based on the songs I've heard, here's what my ballot would look like:
Over The Love - The Great Gatsby
Let It Go - Frozen
Atlas - The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
I See Fire - The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got) - The Great Gatsby

My prediction:
Best Original Song
"Let It Go", Frozen
"Ordinary Love", Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom
"Atlas", The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
"Young and Beautiful", The Great Gatsby
"So You Know What It's Like", Short Term 12

What are some of your favourites from the eligibility list? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I'd go for "Atlas" & "Young and Beautiful". Not sure about other nominees, I have to listen to most of them. I don't like "Let It Go" that much, but it can get nomination just because Frozen is a musical

    1. Awww, "Let It Go" is such a nice catchy song! I agree on Atlas though. I like Coldplay.

  2. "So You Know What It's Like", Short Term 12

If this is nominated I'll be thrilled - if it wins I WILL cry.

    1. actually... was that clear? I'll cry because I will be SO HAPPY.

    2. Haha yeh, I know what you mean. I'm waiting to watch the movie before I listen to that song. Wanna see it in context.
