Best of 2011

At long last, here are my favourite films of 2011. If you asked me earlier, I would have said that it was a weak year for film. In the past few weeks though, I caught up with some wonderful smaller films which changed my perception. I gave my 5-star rating to 30 films in total. It was really tough to choose my #1 this year, as I loved "A Separation" and "Moneyball" with equal gusto. I finally decided on "A Separation" as it accomplishes so much for such a minimalist production (there isn’t even a single note of music in the film). So here's my top 30, starting with my #1 - "A Separation".

A Separation
Moneyball
The Help
Bridesmaids
Contagion
Attack the Block
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
X-Men: First Class
A Better Life
Drive

Captain America
Tyrannosaur
Melancholia
The Ides of March
The Descendants
Super 8
Margin Call
Martha Marcy May Marlene
Circumstance
Take Shelter
Hanna
Miss Bala
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Midnight In Paris
The Guard
The Artist
Arthur Christmas
Kung Fu Panda 2
Source Code
The Kid With A Bike

  1. Great list. I still need to see Attack The Block and A Better Life from your top ten, but can't disagree with any of your other selections. I also like that you have quite a mix of different genres represented!

  2. Thanks, I try not to discriminate against genres. I love dramas, but I definitely appreciate a good action/comedy film. Do you normally do a year's best list?

    1. It's actually my first year blogging, so I haven't decided whether to do one yet. Will definitely be after the Oscars though, since my "viewing year" runs from March to February instead of January to December.
